Ruben’s ability to blend dark humour, social commentary, and compelling narratives has established him as a true cinematic visionary and one of the most celebrated directors in recent years.
With a repertoire that includes award-winning films such as “The Square”, “Force Majeure,” and “Triangle of Sadness”, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of cinematic expression, exploring complex themes and social dynamics with unmatched precision.
Having won the Jury Prize – Un Certain Regard (2014) at the Cannes Film Festival, he went on to win the Cannes Palme d’Or twice, first for “The Square” (2017) and most recently for “The Triangle of Sadness” (2023).
His short film “Incident by a Bank” won the Golden Bear for Best Short at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival, and in 2020 he was awarded the King’s medal for his contribution to Swedish cinema.
“Triangle of Sadness” was also honoured with 3 Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. In 2023 he was appointed Jury President of the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
Ruben is currently developing his next feature film titled “The Entertainment System is Down”.
