Award winning visual artist, photographer, director and cinematographer Samuel Bayer has built a career on translating his aesthetic vision into meaningful storytelling. Bayer first launched his career with Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” a landmark video which MTV has consistently rated as one of the most iconic music videos ever made.
A decade later Bayer continued to take the industry by storm, acquiring seven Moon Men including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Rock Video and the coveted Viewer’s Choice Award. In a career that has spanned over 20 years, Bayer has directed over 150 videos for artists including Blind Melon, The Smashing Pumpkins, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, The Strokes, Maroon 5 and many others.
Bayer has been recognized with lifetime achievement awards from both Kodak and the Camerimage Film festival. Selections of his films are displayed in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC.
